י, ההוי. כי עשיתי את אשור שבט אפי לרדות בו את עמי:
י, הומטה הוא. זעמי בידם של בני אשור:
י, טוהיתפאר הגרזן. הקב״ה אומר לא היה לך להתהלל בזאת כי אינך אלא כגרזן שלי ואני החוצב בך נפרע על ידך מאויבי אתה המשור ואני המניפו וכי דרך המשור להתהלל על מניפו
י, טוכהניף שבט את מרימיו. כאלו היה השבט מניף את עצמו ואת יד המרימו והלא אין שבט מניפו אלא האדם:

Ashur is only the rod of Hashem’s anger: “You are only like My axe, and I am the One who chops with you”
10:5Woe: for I have made Ashur the rod of My anger, to chastise My people with it.
10:5And the staff: My fury is in the hand of the people of Ashur.
10:15Shall the axe boast: HaKadosh Baruch Hu says: You should not have prided yourself in this, for you are only like My axe, and I am the One who chops with you; I exact punishment from My enemies through you. You are the saw, and I am the One who wields it; and is it the way of a saw to pride itself over the one who wields it?
10:15As though the rod were to wield those who lift it: as though the rod were to wield itself and the hand that lifts it; but surely no rod wields [anything]; only the man [wields it].
