To become wealthy: deal honestly, and ask for mercy from the One to whom wealth belongs

Niddah, 70b

Talmud Bavli

[The people of Alexandria asked Rabbi Yehoshua ben Chananya:] What should a person do to become wealthy? He said to them: Let him do much business, and deal honestly. They said to him: Many have done so, and it did not help them. [He said:] Rather, let him ask for mercy from the One to whom wealth belongs, as it says, “Mine is the silver, and Mine is the gold” (Chaggai 2:8).

What does this teach us? That this without that is not enough.
